Disadvantages of Facebook

Facebook have many disadvantages on teenagers than advantages. Why I say that? Because  as we known most of the teenagers don’t realize the negative impact of Fb on their life. And, the main reason is because they are already addicted to it. And, this addiction can lead to several negative developments.
The first disadvantage effect of fb is that a teenagers user starts loosing interest in his or her surroundings. They would be addicted to Fb  and the only thing they would be concerned about will be their “own” world, which is inside Fb.

The second disadvantage effect is that the real-world social interaction will start diminishing. There is no doubt that they are going to have hundreds of friends on  Fb , but with how many of them would teenagers be interacting out in the real world. As a human being, they are a social creature and  naturally require real-world social interaction. When they are going to spend maximum of their time on the Internet, teenagers are going to decrease their  communication and social skills.

Another negative impact will be on their health. There is a very high chance that excessive use of  Fb  leads to the users becoming obese. They would be sitting most of the time in front of the computer, eating snacks and without any physical activities. And, over a period of time teenagers are going to accumulate all the extra pounds.

So guys, do you think facebook give us bad impact?

  1. yes i agree same here with statement above. to me if one hung up on someone on the facebook individual high possibility will be one that especially idler for a student. This case provable through there is my family that hung up on someone on facebook until like delay the housework and consequently in her length time already do not make housework given by teachers. Every time go back from her school will continue online. This case should in erase as hard as parent should with role on their children.

yes..me also agree with this topic..this is because Facebook is going to minimize my study time. Rather than spending the time on Facebook, I think we better start browsing some educational sites that relate to your school course.
For Facebook users, family doesn’t come first, but Facebook does. For them their online friends are more important than their family members.

as a facebook users, it is up to you to decide the degree to which you want this social networking site to enter into your life. Getting addicted to Facebook is certainly going to increase problems in your life, but if you can restrict or avoid the use of this non-productive aspect of your life, you are going to stay away from troubles. Hence, it is up to you to decide how you want to use Facebook. : )

i agree with Mei Ling..for me whether facebook give you positive or negative impact that depends on how you use it...for example if you have good behavior and attitudes of course you will not make facebook as a platform for defaming and cheat others...

  5. Diana:

you said that one of the disadvantages of facebook can be seen in terms of health such as obesity..i disagree with you because the main factor of obesity is not because you sit too long to surf the Facebook, but intake of foods containing excess fat, especially of children and adolescents without parental control can lead to obesity. facts of the health center said that children and teenagers are the ones who have the highest tendency for obesity problems eating habits....

  6. Ah Chong: yes i agree with you all. Because for me facebook have many disadvantange than advantage.
The negative effect of Facebook on communication is already evident in how people interact out of the cyberspace. Students for example use the traits, whether correct or incorrect in writing papers for their classes, in phone conversations and face to face interactions. It has become fascinating for English literature professors and psychologists to study how students find it tolerable to used words like ‘i’ for ‘I’, ‘u’ for ‘you’, ‘sry’ for ‘sorry’, ‘ty’ for ‘thank you’ and similar substitutes. This is the acceptable writing norm on social sites like Facebook. Once it becomes a habit among users it will gradually erode the importance of the language in real life.

  7. David: Yes i agree with your opinion Ah Chong because mostly many disadvantage of facebook become from student. To our students using Facebook, there is a false sense of privacy.

Couple this false sense of privacy with the feeling of anonymity and lack of social responsibility that often develops from using text-centered telecommunications, and we see that many students post embarrassing, humiliating, denigrating and hurtful content in both text, photos and videos. We need to teach them that NOTHING IS PRIVATE online, especially their social networks. We need to show them examples of the serious consequences that have occurred to those whose egregious online behavior has been made public. Students have been expelled from high schools and colleges. Students have been denied acceptances to intern programs, admission to independent high schools, colleges, and jobs at summer camps. Students, and their families, have been sued for slander and defamation of character. Students, and their parents, have been arrested. All because of the content they've posted in their "private" social network accounts. People are trolling their accounts. Hackers, scammers, reporters, police, high school and college admissions officers, employers, parents and summer camp directors....Adults ARE looking and the kids don't get it! Also, they don't realize that the instant they post something to Facebook (or MySpace or YouTube, etc.), they've just lost control and ownership of that content. Try reviewing the privacy rights of Facebook with your middle and high school students. It is quite an eye opener!

In the fall of 2007, Dr. Nora Barnes, Director for the Center of Marketing Research at UMASS Dartmouth, published a study that showed more than 20% of colleges and universities search social networks for their admissions candidates. Do you think that percentage will decrease, increase or remain unchanged in the coming years? Ask your high school students that question!
